They have a radio microphone there for the reader and /or officiant to use. I find it's usually better left in the podium for the reader to avoid static when it's moved back and forth, the officiant can use their second hand held microphone. I could provide a mic stand for them if you reserve one from me. We usually provide the music from the balcony area, we can see everything for timing up there. I always bring my own sound equipment so I can set it correctly for my voice and balance the sound for the sanctuary.

I bring my portable sound equipment so I can set it correctly for my voice and balance sound for singing with my portable piano keyboardist, harpist and/or and string trio. The ceremony music is usually performed in the "Capitol Concourse" My portable vocal/ piano sound system is set up in the back here or sometimes the side area. For receptions I can turn the sound system to face the cocktail level for solo piano or jazz duo music, or have preset cocktail musicians at the cocktail / dinner location.

They strictly enforce time constraints for set-up there, but we have plenty of time to set up my musicians and take out our equipment afterward. The musicians are in the back (north side) on the left and /or right side. There is access to electricity on that back wall. Reception music is then available in the Como reception visitor center.

Outdoor ceremonies on the patio under the white tent are great. I bring the portable sound system/ microphone for my vocal solos with my portable keyboardist. There is plenty of room for my reception bands inside or band members can join us out on the patio.

The ceremony is usually on the Great Hall main floor, then the cocktail hour on the second floor while they reset the main room for dinner. We are able to use their grand piano, and sounds system for ceremonies. There is plenty of room next to the piano for additional instrumentalists such as a harp, flute, and string trio. During the cocktail hour my pianist plays the main floor piano and the sound carries upward well because of the high ceilings and marble floors. We can also pre-set a portable jazz group upstairs. My Martinson jazz/swing band and Elevation variety dance band perform on a portable stage which the facility sets up in the main Great Hall during the change over.

They have a radio microphone sound system there for the ceremony reader and officiant to use. I always bring my own sound equipment so I can set it correctly for my voice and volume balance for singing with my keyboardist and / or string trio. My small floor monitor is helpful for the accompanying musicians to clarify the music acoustics near them for better timing in such a beautiful tall space. We usually provide the music from the side, to the left of the wedding platform in the main hall, in front of the water area. Portable keyboardist or jazz combo can provide cocktail dinner music in the adjacent room as the main room is re-set for dinner. My dance bands can set up during the cocktail change over. Another scenario is the ceremony music in the Johnson Great Room which is usually vocalist and piano keyboard, then band on the main platform for dinner and dance reception.

If you are not sure that you can include this special treat at your wedding and are on the most strict of budgets, or searching for the best way to stretch your dollars further, consider these options that will give you more music for you money:
Ceremony / Cocktail hour packages - get the most from your musicians
In order to maximize a limited budget, consider having the ceremony musicians stay on to play during the cocktail hour, keeping that jubilant feeling flowing through the receiving line and into the reception. Many musicians have lower add-on rates, and this works well with ceremony musicians staying on into cocktail and dinner hour.
Budget Tip: You can hire vocalist Diane Martinson with her pianist to provide all the ceremony music needed, AND 1.5 hours of jazz cocktail music for less cost than having a string quartet for a ceremony.

Diane and pianist provide all ceremony music needed -prelude to postlude, and can continue on with background jazz cocktail music and dinner jazz as a duo or trio.
Cocktail hour /dinner music - include live music before the DJ!
Even if you are not able to afford live music for the dance or prefer recorded dance music, consider including 1 hour or 2 of live music during the cocktails and dinner before the DJ starts the dance portion. The live music really adds a lavish ambience to your celebration, and you can attain that festive feeling without hiring a band for the entire evening. The cost is very reasonable for my background pianist, duo & trio, and we are very flexible, low volume, and mindful of your schedule considering the toasting or cake cutting. Guests are always appreciative of our contribution to the festivities.
Background Dinner Music by the Reception Dance musicians
If you decided to book a band for the reception dance, you can enjoy even more live music earlier in the evening by having Diane arrange for dinner music from the pianist or a few members in the band. This addition is at a lower rate and therefore is more cost efficient for you than hiring in a separate pianist or jazz trio group to come in, and it heightens the feeling of celebration in the room.
